Goth is a music-based subculture that began in the United Kingdom during the early 1980s. Inspired by the post-punk genre, artists such as The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Bauhaus created the gothic-rock genre. This genre grew far beyond just a style of music into an entire subculture consisting of aesthetics, fashion, film, literature, and lifestyle.
